  • Who should take this tour?
Anyone that enjoys aviation, history, war strategy, flying, and/or aircraft will enjoy this tour. In addition to the planned stops and lectures, we travel in a comfortable motor coach through the beautiful French and Belgian countryside, eat and drink in restaurants with local cuisine, and stay in comfortable, clean hotels. There will be some time for shopping in Ypres and Bury St. Edmonds and there may be a surprise or two in store in Chateau-Thierry which is located in the Champagne region of France. Whether you are a teen, an adult, a veteran or a grandparent, all ages will enjoy this tour.
  • What does a typical day look like on this tour?
Each day is different but we will usually eat breakfast at the hotel around 8:30 AM and leave for our destination at 9:30 AM on our private motor coach. Your historian will brief you en-route about the sites you will visit. The multimedia tablets provided for your use will include photos, videos, maps, illustrations, and sometimes period-specific-music to help you understand the time and place that you will visit. At some sites, we will be joined by a local docent who will provide a tour of the site/facility. Lunch will usually be on the road at local roadside stop. After touring, we will check into our hotel in the afternoon and those interested may choose to join in the hotel lounge for a no-host happy hour (these are very popular). Most dinners are on your own either at the hotel our at a nearby restaurant. Your tablets will provide a guide to each day's activities as well as evening meal options.
  • How physically strenuous is this trip?
This trip includes many important historical points of interest and involves two to four stops per day. There is a lot to see and experience so the pace could be considered energetic. However, we intentionally stay more than one night where possible in one location to make it more convenient for our guests. Generally, there are no steep climbs or long walks on this trip. The bus will attempt to park as close as possible to attractions to minimize walking distance. The trip is designed so that older guests can enjoy the museums with a minimum of effort. If needed, we can arrange for a fold-up wheel chair to be available on the bus.

  • I can do this on my own. Why should I consider your tour?
Taking a guided tour relieves you from having to rent a car, book hotels that may or may not meet your expectations and generally allows you to relax and enjoy the experience. Some locations on this tour, especially in France, are not easy to locate on your own. Your historian will help enhance your understanding of the leaders, airmen and the battles that took place during first half of the 20th century. The multimedia tablets provided to each guest to use while on the tour will help bring those experiences to life. The carefully curated content supplements the oral lectures provided by your guide and provides an entertainment while on the bus. Help is available for those that need assistance using the tablets but generally they are easy to use. Individuals that take these guided historical tours are often "birds of a feather", with similar interests and experiences. They often form tight bonds that last far beyond the tour itself.
